Evoca 2024 in Review

Every Campaign Begins with a Story

At Evoca Foundation, every campaign we run begins with a story—one that reveals a challenge, uplifts a vision, and calls for action. This year, we’ve had the privilege of telling stories that span continents and causes, from the voices of young girls in Nigeria to the majestic song of whales in our oceans. As we look back, we’re reminded that these stories are not ours alone—they belong to the communities we serve and the supporters who make this work possible

  • One in three women globally will be affected by some form of reproductive disease in their lifetimes. They can seriously impact a woman’s quality of life, livelihood, and productivity. Many are poorly understood and under-researched, and yet most can be identified and managed with early screening and an awareness of the symptoms. They’re particularly prevalent in and dangerous for black women. They impact fertility, the likelihood of having to undergo major procedures, and they drive up the costs associated with maintaining health.

That’s why on International Women’s Day 2024, Evoca Foundation launched its partnership with Youterus Health, a social impact organisation advancing African women’s care. Together, we wanted to start a conversation that equips women and girls the world over with the resources they need to support their uterine health and protect their quality of life. Have a look at the campaign, understand more about uterine conditions and learn what you can do to protect your health here.

  • Earth Day’s 2024 Planet vs Plastic’s theme called for an unwavering commitment to end plastic use for the sake of human and planetary health. For Evoca, to consider ‘Planet vs Plastics’ is to consider the whale, and so ‘The Whale Song’ was born. These majestic creatures are instrumental in regulating the Earth's atmosphere and oceans, but their survival is threatened by a global plastics crisis, pollution, climate change and illegal whaling. Conservation efforts to safeguard whales from damaging plastics are key to preserving the delicate balance of our oceans and guiding the planet in its entirety towards a healthy future.

“On this Earth Day, let us celebrate the bond between our species, the connection that transcends the boundaries of land and sea. Let your actions be a testament to the belief that together, we can ensure the oceans remain a haven for all who call it home.” Watch the The Whale Song short film in full here.

  • Every year, on October 11th, the world is asked to pause and pay attention—to really listen to the stories of girls who face struggles that are far too often swept aside. The International Day of the Girl Child is a call to reflect on the unique challenges girls encounter and to celebrate their resilience, their joy, and, perhaps most importantly, their hope.

This year, Evoca spoke directly to the girls whose dreams are nurtured by the grassroots organisations we support. We spent time speaking with them, listening to their stories, their visions, their plans for the future. Through these conversations, we saw not just the challenges they’re facing—climate change, gender-based violence, educational barriers—but also what they’re dreaming of. Our Day of the Girl campaign this year sought to illuminate the power of hope as a force for change, and was delivered in collaboration with our brilliant impact partners Bella Foundation and Bravehearts Ladies. We shared these voices and hopes with you so that we can celebrate them together.

  • For 2024’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, Evoca Foundation was proud to celebrate the brilliant work of Legacy of War Foundation and their extraordinary Land for Women programme. In ‘Sowing Seeds of Change’, we feature a photo series by Alice Kayibanda, a Rwandan photographer whose work brings the strength and determination of these women to life. Captured at two cooperative farms, Alice’s lens tells the story of women reclaiming their agency, healing from trauma, and building a future rooted in resilience and renewal. Through collective farming, they cultivate the soil as an act of reclamation, a commitment to life, and a way to honour the past while forging a brighter future.Explore 'Sowing Seeds of Change': celebrate these stories of strength and renewal through our digital photo gallery and magazine.

FOUNDATION HIGHLIGHTS

Our brilliant partners continue to deliver ground-breaking programmes across climate action, education and supporting women and girls. This year has been busy for them all.

  • We’ve renewed our funding for Braveheart Ladies’ football programmes for girls and young women in Nigeria, and are especially excited about the expanded education fund, which now supports seven girls with schooling through tuition, uniforms, and other essential fees. Braveheart Ladies have also made a huge step forward in securing their registration as an official charity in Nigeria! This achievement will enable them to secure funding beyond Evoca and support their continued growth.

They are a dedicated and passionate team, and we couldn’t be prouder of what they’ve accomplished.

  • As one of our longest-standing partners, it’s always rewarding to see the Bella Foundation expand its reach and impact on girls and young women.

This year, we’ve significantly extended our education program to support 13 girls across five districts in Nigeria, enabling them to access quality education to avoid falling into forced child marriages. We're excited to see how the girls track on with their education!

  • As a new partner in 2023, and following Evoca’s visit to Uganda in Autumn 2024 (stay tuned for our field report next year!) we’ve contributed to the final stage of funding for the 2024 entrepreneurship programme by supporting startup funding for young women. The funding will enable the entrepreneurs to kickstart their companies.

The funding will eventually make its way back to Imagine Her as patient returnable capital to Imagine Her, funding a new cohort in 2025.

  • The Afghanistan-based organisation will receive support from Evoca for a mobile library van in Kabul to expand access to educational resources and promote literacy. This initiative aims to deliver essential learning materials to students in remote and underserved areas, reflecting our commitment to advancing education for all.

By reaching hard-to-access communities, the mobile library will provide tailored reading education to boys and girls who might otherwise lack such opportunities.

  • Project Avaza continues in India with Slam Out Loud as hundreds of students receive a creative education to bolster their confidence.

New Partners

  • This year, Evoca Foundation was delighted to kick off our partnership with Sol y Verde. Founded in the heart of the Petén region in Guatemala, Sol y Verde is devoted to ecological restoration, regenerative agriculture, and building resilient communities. Their vision is to live in harmony with the jungle, integrating permaculture ethics and ancestral Mayan wisdom to create solutions that restore ecosystems and uplift communities.

By teaching communities to plant their own seeds and grow their own food, Sol y Verde breaks the cycle of poverty, promotes food sovereignty, and reduces reliance on unstable governmental systems. This process not only heals local ecosystems but also fosters climate resilience.

Read more about Sol y Verde’s brilliant work in our recent blog and webpage.

  • Youterus Health is a women-led and African-owned social impact company revolutionizing uterine healthcare. In a world where 741 million African women and girls face daily barriers to care, we refuse to be silent. By uniting ancestral wisdom with AI-powered innovation, Youterus is unmuting the womb and confronting the climate threats that endanger our health: “Our voices rise. Our stories transform care. Our bodies are sovereign. And we won't wait another generation for change.”

This year, Evoca partnered with Youterus Health to deliver our 2024 International Women’s Day campaign on uterine health. We’re in the process of gearing up for another collaboration with Youterus in 2025 - stay tuned for more info!

  • A Wisdom Keepers Delegation provides a platform for Elders and spiritual leaders from indigenous communities and Wisdom traditions around the world to share their stories and techniques, and to collectively vision a more conscious, peaceful, and sustainable world. The organisation facilitates spontaneous and profound shifts by enabling global audiences to appreciate and understand traditional wisdom ways as holistic, comprehensive and practical worldviews with immediate and relevant application in their own lives and societies.

Evoca was honoured to help fund the Wisdom Keeper delegation’s journey to COP 2024 this year, where they hosted and participated in a number of sessions that provided platforms for indigenous voices during policy discussions.
